Black Sails

Written by Devin Lewis
Black Sails is a mysterious, pirate-inspired cocktail served in a snifter with fresh mint, blending the herbal bite of Fernet, the warmth of Montenegro, and the smoky richness of Johnny Black. With agave and layers of chocolate mole and tobacco bitters, it evokes the aroma of gunpowder smoke. Thank you.

Ingredients

  • 2oz- Johnny Walker Black
  • 1oz- Fernette
  • 1oz- Montenegro Amaro
  • .5oz-1oz- agave nectar (Herradura or Green wise)
  • 3-5 Expressed mint leaves
  • 3 dashes of Turkish Tobacco bitters
  • 3 dashes of Xocolatl Mole bitter

Steps

  1. 1.Prepare Your Mixing Glass:
  2. Take a mixing glass and add 3 to 5 mint leaves. Gently slap the mint leaves between your hands to release their oils, then drop them into the glass.
  3. 2.Add the Spirits:
  4. Pour in 2 ounces of Johnny Walker Black, followed by 1 ounce of Amaro Montenegro and 1 ounce of Fernet.
  5. 3.Sweeten the Mix:
  6. Add 1 ounce of agave syrup to the glass.
  7. Add the Bitters:
  8. Include 3 to 5 drops of chocolate mole bitters and 3 to 5 drops of Turkish tobacco bitters.
  9. 4.Stir and Chill:
  10. Fill the mixing glass with ice and stir the mixture for about 15 to 20 seconds, just until well-chilled and nicely diluted.
  11. 5.Serve:
  12. Strain the cocktail into a snifter glass.
  13. 6.Garnish:
  14. Finish with either a dark Luxardo cherry or a single large mint leaf on top.
  15. 7.Enjoy!!!
